I have a video clip saved on my laptop, taken a few years ago when everyone gathered for some holiday or family celebration.
In the foreground, a group of musicians play an Irish tune: my nephew James plays guitar; my husband Steve, the penny whistle; my daughter Martha, the fiddle, and my son Reuben, the bodhran.
In the background, a tumult of activity: Martha’s (now) husband Justin twirls my youngest, Helen, in a dance, while two school friends watch, intent on learning new dance steps. Folks piled onto the sofa and loveseat engage in a lively discussion, their chatter and laughter adding to the festive din in the room.
Music, laughter, dancing, good conversation…
I love to watch this video clip occasionally, because it reminds me of one of the reasons I love my family so much: they all so thoroughly enjoy one another.
Truly, a little taste of heaven.
