Confessions of a Homeschool Mom is now in the hands of a team of beta readers, who are already offering excellent constructive feedback. After a week on the road, I am excited to be home so that I can get back to work on the manuscript.
Write, rewrite, rewrite again…and again…When is a manuscript finally finished?!! Thankfully, these readers make what can be a rather drawn out process actually enjoyable.
I began work on Confessions with a couple of goals in mind:
I wanted to write in first person, something I had not done before. This was more of a challenge than I anticipated, but it was also a ton of fun.
I wanted to give those unfamiliar with home education a window into the world of homeschooling. Homeschooling is the fastest growing educational option in America. We are even hearing about it on national TV and syndicated talk radio. But test scores and grade reports aside, what does homeschooling actually look like?
I wanted to give those within the homeschool community a voice. What are our concerns? Our struggles? How are we like our public school counterparts? How are we different? I endeavored to create a character to whom other moms could say, “Amen, sister! I certainly can relate!”
Have I successfully accomplished these goals? When Confessions of a Homeschool Mom hits the shelves, I would love to hear your answers to this question!
